Barbara Ellen Chambers

Barbara Ellen Chambers, age 82 of Marion, passed away Friday October 3, 2025 at the Kingston Residence of Marion. Barbara was born December 7, 1942 in New Bloomington, the daughter of Jack Corey and Doris Ellen (Parker) Chambers. Barbara was raised on the family farm and graduated from high school in New Bloomington. Feeling called to a life of service, she pursued a career in medicine, earning her practical nursing degree from Marion General Hospital and later obtaining her Master's degree. For nearly 40 years, Barbara devoted herself to nursing as the Supervisor of Surgery and Recovery, where her compassion and leadership impacted countless lives. Her dedication to care extended far beyond her local community. Barbara made multiple mission trips to Peru, bringing clothing, medicine, and food, and working alongside local doctors to care for the sick and underserved. A passionate traveler, Barbara made it a goal to visit a new country every year. Her journeys took her throughout Europe, Egypt, and Africa. Fiercely independent, she often traveled solo - always seeking to learn and experience more of the world. Barbara was an avid reader and an active member of the "Friends of the Library." She was also a talented knitter and crocheter, creating scarves, blankets, and afghans that she donated each year to the Christmas Clearing House. Barbara's life was one of service, adventure, and quiet generosity. She will be remembered for her strength, compassion, and unwavering commitment to helping others. She is survived by her siblings: Mary Joyce "Jody" Snyder and Thomas Chambers; she was the aunt of: Tonya (Kevin) Tackett, Jason (Ashley) Snyder, Thomas Chambers, II, and Timothy Chambers; great-aunt of: Jesstine (Marc) Snyder, Parker Tackett, Sofie Snyder, Daphne Snyder and Calvin Chambers. Barbara is preceded in death by her loving parents. Services for Barbara will be held privately for her family.
