Matthew Nord Obituary
Matthew "USA" Nord, 50, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 7, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born with Down Syndrome, Matt lived a life full of spirit, pride, and deep love for his country. He was the most patriotic person many of us ever knew, proudly referring to himself as Matt "USA" Nord-a title he wore with honor and joy.
Matt had a special place in every room he entered. He was endlessly supportive of the military, often sporting red, white, and blue and proudly sharing his admiration for those who serve. His warmth, humor, and unwavering pride in America made him unforgettable to everyone he met.
Beyond his love for country, Matt was a passionate advocate for inclusion and community. He was one of the founding members of the Jesters performing arts group in Fort Wayne, where he brought joy and inspiration to audiences for many years. He enjoyed his nine years working at Meijer where he held several positions, including stock boy in the bakery, and keeping the food court tidy. He also enjoyed his many years at Steak and Shake. He also participated in Special Olympics, competing with determination and pride, and was a beloved member of the Gigi's Playhouse community, where his enthusiasm and friendship left a lasting impression. He was one of the first members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church's Bible Study for Adults with Disabilities.
Matt's legacy is one of joy, love, and unshakable patriotism. He taught us to love fully, laugh often, and never be afraid to wave the flag a little higher.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Barbara (nee Krumwiede) Nord; brothers, Donald Nord and Paul Nord; and sisters, Rose Wilkins, Dana (Ralph) Ecker, Jessica Nord, and Nicole (Colin) Brown all of whom cherished his vibrant spirit and loving heart; and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Rev. Donald Nord, whom we trust welcomed Matt with open arms; sister-in-law, Sherri Nord.
