Nancy Till Obituary
Nancy Louise Till, 77, passed away on September 30, 2025, at home. Born on May 9, 1948, in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of George and Jane Bero. In 1950 Nancy moved with her parents to Chicago, IL where they lived with her grandparents for one year. In 1951 her father was transferred to Gary, IN where Nancy learned the names of every train passing through Gary. While in Gary she started kindergarten at Horace Mann School. In 1953 her father was transferred to Fort Wayne where she continued kindergarten at Merle Abbett School followed by grade school at Sacred Heart Catholic School, where she participated in Brownies and Girl Scouts.
While in 8th grade Nancy became a candy striper at St. Joseph Hospital and in that role delivered mail and read to the patients in the hospital. She also was asked to make trips to the laboratory to get phenol solution for the Sisters working at the hospital so they could use that in order to soak their feet. She was intrigued by all the chemicals and laboratory equipment she saw and developed a lifelong career interest.
She was a 1966 graduate of Bishop Luers High School and attended St. Francis College and St. Joseph School of Medical Technology from which she graduated jointly in 1970. She was employed by St. Joseph Hospital for 47 years as a medical technologist in the Lab. She retired in 2015. During that time, she taught many medical technology students.
She married the love of her life, Richard Till, on August 1, 1970. During their life together they traveled to many places in the United States especially national parks. They especially enjoyed the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. They spent many vacations hiking, finding black bears, and often stayed at the Cobbly Nob cabins. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, counted cross stitch, knitting, and crocheting. Family and friends were quite important to her and loved spending time with her grandchildren, visiting with neighbors on the front porch, as well as the many meals with St Joe colleagues. She adored her two cats, Lucky and Lucy.
Surviving is her loving husband of 55 years, Richard Till, children, Christopher (Alissa) Till, Ft. Wayne, and Jennifer (Jason) Dennington, Chesterton, IN; grandchildren SGT Joshua Dennington, PFC Abigail Dennington, Carter, Rachel, and Emily Till, step grandson Evan (Brittney) Cochran and step-great grandchildren Aubrey and Brody Canezaro. She is also survived by sister, Ellen Bero and sister-in-law, Carolyn Till. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jane Bero, brother, James P. Bero, sister, Jeanne M. Bero, brother-in-law, Raymond Till, and sister-in-law, Patricia Dykman.
She suffered from chronic kidney disease for the last several years of life and wished to thank DaVita Dialysis Center on Dupont Road for her care.
Funeral Mass 10:30am Wednesday October 8, 2025, at St Jude Catholic Church, 2155 Randallia Dr. with visitation from 9:30-10:30am in the church. Visitation also on Tuesday from 4 to 8 pm at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, with Vigil Service at 3:30 pm. Burial in St Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery. The family's preferred memorials are St. Jude Catholic Church, Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Parkview Hospice, and Nephrology Association of NE Indiana.
