Riley Murphy Obituary
Riley Freedom Murphy, known affectionately as Riley to his friends and family, left this world far too soon on August 23, 2025, at the age of 22. Born on January 12, 2003, in the close-knit community of Auburn, Indiana, Riley was a beacon of joy and laughter, touching the lives of all who knew him. His untimely departure due to a single vehicle crash occurred in the very town that he called home for his entire life, leaving a void in the hearts of many.
The beloved son of Chad Murphy and Stacia Murphy, Riley grew up in a blended family rich with love and support. His stepmother, Kris, along with his oldest brother, Deane Witham, and older brother, Grant Murphy, were integral parts of his upbringing. Riley was blessed with a large extended family, including paternal grandparents Rita and Freedom Murphy, and maternal grandparents Debra and Alonzo Drennon. Step-grandparents Dennis and Judy Hieber. His paternal uncle, Duane Murphy, and aunt, Lana Banks, along with maternal uncles Nathan and Zachary Keith, all held special places in his heart.
Riley's education at East Noble High School in Kendallville was a time of growth and exploration. He thrived in the camaraderie of his classmates and was known for his quick wit and willingness to lend a helping hand. His kind spirit and thoughtful nature made him a friend to many. A young man of many interests, Riley found solace and excitement in the great outdoors. He was happiest when on the lake, where the tranquility of nature met his adventurous spirit. His passion for video games offered him a world of challenge and fantasy, while his love for spending time with friends showcased his deeply social and engaging personality. Riley's infectious laugh and genuine kindness made every gathering brighter.
Riley's character was the epitome of what it means to be funny, thoughtful, and kind. His humor brought smiles to faces even on the cloudiest of days, his thoughtfulness ensured that no one ever felt alone or unloved, and his kindness was a gentle reminder of the goodness in the world. To know Riley was to know a young man who effortlessly made life better for those around him. Though his time on this earth was brief, the impact Riley Freedom Murphy made will be felt for generations. His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were privileged to cross his path.
As we bid farewell to Riley, we celebrate a life that, while short, was lived to the fullest and enriched the lives of all he encountered. In the quiet moments, we will see Riley's spirit in the gentle ripples of the lake he cherished, in the echoes of the games he played, and in the warmth of the memories shared among friends. Riley's life was a testament to the beauty of human connection and the enduring power of a kind heart. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., then again from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home, 403 S. Main St., Kendallville, IN. A funeral service will follow the last visitation at 6:00 p.m. at Hite Funeral Home.
Pastor Jeffrey Teeple from Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont, IN, will officiate the service.
