William Peters Obituary

William "Bill" J. Peters, age 81, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025. Born on June 18, 1944, he was the son of the late Milford and Helen (Hecke) Peters. Bill graduated from North Side High School in 1962. After serving 3 1/2 years in the US Air Force, he earned a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, graduating with honors. His career spanned 38 years at Magnavox/Raytheon, where he retired as a Systems Engineer/Program Manager in 2005. Bill met Beverly (Quinlan) Weinraub on a blind date, and they were married in 1994. Bill loved digital photography and framing his works to give to others. He and Bev spent many vacations recording on their cameras and sharing photos of European river cruises and driving trips in the US. But his favorite activity was spending time with his grandkids, playing cards and teasing each other and flying remote-controlled airplanes and drones. He eventually got into designing and building rockets on his 3-D printer which he flew with the grandkids. Bill also took them on trips to Wright-Patterson National Air Museum in Dayton, OH. To relax he read voraciously, sometimes reading 2-3 books per week, mostly mystery and spy or military thrillers. Bill was a good man with a big heart and a great sense of humor who was always ready to help his family and friends. He was deeply loved by his wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings who will all keep him in their hearts and memories. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bev (Quinlan) Weinraub Peters; sons, Robert (Stephanie) and David Peters; daughters, Catherine Smith and Melissa (Michael) Bair; step-children, Anissa and Justin (Amanda) Weinraub; grandchildren, Jacob and MaCayla Smith, Austin, Amanda, Chelsea, and Keagan Peters, Megan, Isaac (Hadley), and John Bair, Hannah (Chase) Hamm, and Jack, Ally, and Sam Weinraub; great-grandchildren, Mason Ruble and Owen Vanover; brothers, James (Debra), Carey (Melodye), and Daniel (Diana) Peters; and sisters, Carol Mckissick, Margaret Stier, and Marilyn (Thomas) Gabet. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John in 1985; brother, Richard Peters in 2021; and sister-in-law, Jan Peters in 2021. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorials can be written to Fort Wayne Rescue Mission (fwrm.org), Stillwater Hospice (stillwater-hospice.org), or Shepherd's House (shepherdshouse.org) in Bill's name.
