Basil Ohanian Obituary

Basil Ohanian, a beloved figure from Bethlehem, passed away on July 8, 2025, at the age of 68, surrounded by his cherished family. Born on May 5, 1957, in Syria, Basil's life was a testament to love, faith, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. Basil was the devoted husband of Anisseh (Atiyeh) Ohanian, with whom he shared a remarkable 43 years of marriage. Together, they created a warm and inviting home filled with laughter and hospitality. Basil was a devoted father to Dr. Tony Ohanian and his wife Roua of Bethlehem, Zakiye Abboud and her husband Simon of Easton, and Thomas Ohanian of Bethlehem. His greatest joy was being Jido to his cherished grandchildren: Noah, Briella, Lyanna, Aidan, Ethan, and Adriana, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. Basil was brother to Elizabeth Babikian and Gary Ohanian. Tragically, Basil was preceded in death by his loving parents, Abraham and Zakiye Ohanian and siblings Joseph, Yervant, Levia and Victoria. A proud and faithful member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Allentown, Basil's deep-rooted faith was the cornerstone of his life. He served his church with humility and compassion, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word. His quiet strength and gentle spirit made him a pillar of the community, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Basil, renowned for his quick wit, compassionate nature, and remarkable ability to connect with others, found joy in life's simple pleasures. Whether cheering for the Yankees, taking a peaceful stroll, or simply sharing stories with loved ones, Basil embraced the moments that brought him happiness. His presence alone had a magical way of making people feel at home. Above all, Basil was a devoted family man. His unwavering love, guidance, and steady presence profoundly impacted the lives of those around him. His legacy of compassion, faith, and joy will continue to inspire generations through his children and grandchildren. On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a funeral service will be held at 10 A.M. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, located at 1011 Catasauqua Ave., Allentown. A viewing will be held in the church from 9 A.M. until the service begins. Afterward, Basil will be interred at Laurel Cemetery, Whitehall. The family will be accepting condolences in church on Thursday, July 10 from 7pm to 9pm. Basil's arrangements are entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. Sorry to hear of the passing of Basil. I helped him sell his house in East Allentown years ago. Such a pleasant man to have known and worked with to sell his house.

I am sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I got to know Basil on our meetups on our morning walks in the neighborhood. Such a sweet man with always kind words, always asking about my family. My thought and prayers are with his family
