Basil Powell Service

Basil Powell Service, age 76, passed away on May 8, 2025, in Allentown, PA. He was the son of the late Roy Powell Service, formerly of London, UK, and the late Greta Icilda Bailey, formerly of Allentown, PA. Basil is survived by his loving niece and caregiver, Christine Alicia Service of Reading, PA, five nephews, and two younger brothers, Christopher Service Sr. of Hartford, CT and Richard Service of London, UK. Basil grew up in Jamaica, where he attended Windward Road Primary School and Vauxhall Junior Secondary. In 1983, at the age of 35, he immigrated to Pennsylvania, USA. He was the proud grandson of Simeon Augustus Bailey, Jamaica's second black Sub-Inspector of Police. Known for his free spirit and boundless love of nature, Basil's generosity endeared him to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services: memorial visitation on Saturday, May 17th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Nicos C. Elias Funeral Home, 1227 W. Hamilton St., Allentown.
