Carol Unruh Obituary
Carol Ruth Unruh (Fyer) passed away on September 8, 2025, at 75 years of age. She is survived by husband Robert William Unruh Jr, brother John "Butch" Fryer, husband of Maggie, sons Robert III (Skip), fiancé of Barb and Robin (Rob), granddaughters Gabrielle, Lillian, Rylea, Skylar, and Remedy and many nephews and nieces, friends, cousins, family members, and a daughter in law (Danielle) who she treated as her own. She is remembered for her quick wit, stories, open heart, and unwavering love.
Carol spent her childhood with mother Ruth (Knoeller), father John Fryer Sr and brothers John "Butch" and Lee in Norristown, Pa. She was her mother's best friend and helped her take care of children in the neighborhood and practiced cosmetology. In 1975 a double date led her to the love of her life, Army Vet Robert (Bobby) W. Unruh Jr. They had a whirlwind romance filled with dates, sailing, riding dune buggies, roller skating, rides in their cougar and married just a few months later in 1976. Carol was welcomed into a loving family through Bobby's family Parents, Robert W. Unruh Sr, Merion Ruth (Reitnauer) Unruh, and Bobby's brother Richard (Rick) Unruh and his wife Nancy. A voracious reader, foodie and above all else mom; Carol was a stay-at-home mom to her amazing sons and mom to a revolving door of friends. She was happy to feed them but also put them to work with her list of jobs around the house. Carol was always right there watching and supervising, telling Bobby and the boys exactly what she wanted, and they made her dreams a reality.
Carol was born to be a mother, she was classroom mom, on the PTA, every school party, field trip, or game she was there. A life with two boys was full of stray animals, bumps and bruises, mom don't be mad phone calls, and a lot of chaos but she always let them know she was their biggest supporter and loved them unconditionally. A caring friend who would do anything for those close to her. A lover of all things, Mr. Peanut (made birthdays and Christmas very easy) always on the look for the missing item to her collection. Carol thrived and shown brightest when she became a grandmother to 5 granddaughters (after a house full of boys all those years and only brothers, the girls were her heart and soul). Not a day went by, she didn't remind them (and anyone who would listen) how beautiful and perfect they were. Along with Bobby; Carol got to be a full-time grandparent and caregiver to her girls while their parents worked and despised the day they went to school; even suggesting they homeschool the girls. The dress ups, cosmetology classes, the tea parties, the story writing, the cooking lessons, and the push for them to always use their imagination are memories that will live on with her granddaughters for the rest of their lives. To the end Carol was our phone call; always eager to hear about our day from what we ate to who was giving her babies a hard time she was eager to know it all and help us through any situation especially our ailments when Dr. Carol's prescription of bag balm, silver gel and Tylenol would cure just about everything. A stubborn force to be reckoned with. An unrelenting advocate for being who you are and doing what you want. Loud, funny, intelligent, elegant. There is so much more that should be said, but in the end, what she did was make our world brighter. We love and miss you, Carol.
