Cynthia Smiley Obituary

Cynthia G. Smiley, 85, a longtime resident of Lansdale, died May 25, 2025. She was the beloved wife of John D. Smiley of 65 years. Born June 6, 1939, in Fallsington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Emma (Kirby) Pope. For many years she was a full-time mother as they raised three children, Becky, Randy and Alex. She became involved in many volunteer groups such as PTA, supporting soccer programs, baseball, tennis, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also worked part-time at the local OB/GYN group and later ran a small GYN office for a doctor. Cynthia belonged to the Junior Woman's Club and Lansdale Lions, holding the office of President in both organizations and a member of the Questers Club. She was a Republican Committeewoman for some 20 years and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale. She enjoyed with her husband traveling, playing golf, biking and their dogs. While at Pennsbury, she played hockey, basketball and softball, sang in the chorus, and played in the band. She took great pride in making the varsity hockey team in her sophomore year, playing on a championship team in her junior year, and becoming captain of the team as a senior. In 2001 she was inducted into the Pennsbury High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Her love of sports continued throughout her life. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports and was a HUGE fan of the Phillies and Eagles. Along with her husband, survivors include three children, Rebecca (Smiley) and husband Gerard Wolf, Hunt, TX, Randolph J. Smiley and wife Brenda C. (Swary), Hellertown, PA and Alexander P. Smiley and wife Jill (Readle), Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Douglas G. and wife Patricia Wolf, Daniel R. and wife Kersten Wolf, Emma C. Smiley, Ethan C. Smiley, Morgan J. Smiley and William P. Smiley; great granddaughter, Olivia R. Wolf; brother, Ronald Pope, Columbus, NJ along with several nieces and nephews. She is also predeceased by their daughter Suzanne and their son, Douglas John Smiley. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 am Monday, June 2, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W Main St, Lansdale, PA 19446. The Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntingdon Valley, PA. In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions in her name to the Pennsbury Athletic Hall of Fame and make checks payable to "Pennsbury Athletic Hall of Fame" and in the memo line write "Unsung Hero" and mail check to: Donna Nicholson, 1366 Beechdrop Court, Yardley, PA 19067. My sincerest condolences to the family. Your parents are the best neighbors anyone could hope for. Your mom was the first to greet me with a delicious cake when I arrived to the neighborhood and made me feel very welcome.
