Daniel S. Maher of Doylestown, PA passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2025. He was 64. Dan was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a malignant and aggressive brain cancer, in September 2023. He fought valiantly with courage and grace and was determined to remain positive and live each day to the fullest despite his illness.
Dan was born in Abington, PA on December 7, 1960 to John and Joan Maher (Renner). He was the beloved husband of Christine Maher (Kilbourn). They were together for 47 years, and celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on October 14, 2024. Dan was the loving youngest brother of Michael Maher and Timothy Maher, who survived him.
Dan is also survived by his loving daughter, Lauren Alderfer (Maher) and her husband Austin Alderfer. His young grandchildren, Riley and Lyla Alderfer also brought him great joy and many wonderful memories were created together as a family.
Also surviving Dan are his loving mother-in law Jean Goldberg, father-in-law Edward Kilbourn, sister-in law Cynthia Kilbourn and her husband Mark Rast, and brother-in-law Bret Kilbourn and his wife Tara McGroddy. In addition, there are many other relatives too numerous to mention including nieces, nephews and cousins along with many cherished friends and neighbors, all of whom Dan loved dearly. We must also mention Dan's loyal canine companions, Jack and Luna, who were forever by Dan's side.
Dan was self-employed in construction and home improvements and renovations for many years. He also made custom furniture along with birdhouses, mantels, porch swings, and many other pieces at the request of customers and friends. Dan turned beautiful bowls on his lathe, and enjoyed gifting special bowls at meaningful times. He was a true artist with wood and loved working in his shop.
Dan had many hobbies including camping with his wife Chris and their dogs. Together they enjoyed kayaking, hiking, and biking. He loved nature and especially hiking in the woods, listening for animals, and identifying birds and trees. He was an excellent gardener, spending hours in his flower and vegetable gardens. Dan loved to cook and bake, and had many specialties, including his pumpkin roll at Thanksgiving. He loved to grill meat and to carve the Thanksgiving turkey.
Dan loved to help others, and offered his time freely without hesitation. He was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, relative, friend and neighbor. We will miss him dearly.
