David Alderfer Obituary

David A. "Beefy" Alderfer, 78, a long-time resident of Telford, PA, more recently of Souderton, PA, passed away Friday morning, January 10, 2025, with family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha (Oettinger) Alderfer, on February 13, 2024. They were married for 47 years at the time of her passing away. Born November 21, 1946, in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Willis and Ruth (Gulick) Alderfer. He was a 1964 graduate of Souderton High School and then graduated from the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia, PA. He was later drafted into the military and honorably served with the United States Army in the Vietnam War and was the recipient of The Army Commendation Medal for Distinguished Service. Mr. Alderfer began his career as a mechanic working at his father's automobile dealership, Alderfer Chrysler of Telford, PA. He later worked for Hagey's Bus Service in Franconia, PA, and then Yocum Ford of Lansdale, PA, until retirement. Mr. Alderfer was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Telford, PA for many years. He was also a long-time member of the American Legion Warren Royer Post #234 of Souderton, PA, serving on the executive committee from 2006-2009, and as vice commander from 2010-2022. He also served as the legion home association's representative at-large representative from 2019-2022. In his younger days, Mr. Alderfer was very active with coaching youth football for over 22 years with the Souderton Braves. He enjoyed gardening, listening to music of the 1960's, and following his favorite sports teams: the Eagles, Phillies, and Penn State football. He cherished time with his family and missed very few activities and sporting events of his children and grandchildren. Surviving are five children, Kimberly Jacobs and her husband, Chuck, of Souderton, PA, Diana Alderfer Lengel of Pennsburg, PA, David Landes of Souderton, PA, Timothy Alderfer and his wife, Shelly, of Harleysville, PA, and Christopher Alderfer of Hatfield, PA; 15 grandchildren, Mark Lengel and his wife Jess, Dylan Landes and his fiancée Jennifer Ruth, Joseph Hernandez and his wife Shelby, Kelly Hasson and her husband John, Chelsea Lengel, Nicholas Lengel and his wife Adara, Alexandra Alderfer, Christopher Alderfer, Jacqueline Quinn, Stephen Lengel, Colin Alderfer, Trevor Alderfer, Eric Alderfer, Michael Lengel and Hazel Landes; and 10 great grandchildren, Kayla Stupak, Carter Lincoln, Liza Hernandez, Jack Hasson, Conner Lengel, Yomaira Lengel, Brielle Lengel, Finnegan Hasson, Kai Hernandez and Z.J. Lengel. He is also survived by his twin sister, Carol Ann Baker of Collegeville, PA; a nephew, Stephen Baker; and a niece, Danielle Broadhurst. Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday evening, January 15, 2025, at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA, and again on Thursday from 10-10:45 am at Trinity United Church of Christ, 101 South Main Street, Telford, PA. The public memorial service will then begin at 11 am on Thursday at the church. The interment will take place privately at a later date at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. David, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow Vietnam Veteran. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow war veteran.
