Donald Smith Obituary

Donald E. Smith, a man of honor and dedication, passed away on September 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 26, 1937, in Bethlehem, Don's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his country, community, and family. A graduate of Liberty High School's class of 1955, Don furthered his education at the Capital Engineering Institute and Moravian College. His pursuit of knowledge laid the foundation for a career marked by excellence and integrity. Don honorably and proudly served in the United States Navy for over 32 years, a tenure that reflected his deep patriotism and love for his country. Following his distinguished military service, he worked for PPL, retiring in 1994 as a Nuclear Department Project Manager after 34 years of commendable dedication. Don's devotion to his family was paramount. He was preceded in death by his late parents, Elmer and Edna (Miller) Smith, brother Richard Smith, and his cherished wife, Constance K. "Connie" Smith. His legacy continues through his loving son, Greg Smith and his wife Cyndi of Moore Twp., his daughter Sheri Burdin and her husband Todd of Collegeville, and his sister-in-law Annette Smith of Hanover Twp. His grandson Tyler Smith will carry forward the values and memories instilled by his grandfather. Beyond his family and career, Don was deeply involved in his community. He was a faithful member of Advent Moravian Church, serving as an elder. His commitment to his fellow servicemen was evident through his membership in the US Navy Association, Fleet Reserve Association, Naval Reserve Association, Goodfellows Club, and as a past commander of Bath American Legion and honorary 1st defenders. A 32nd degree Mason, Don was 50 year member of Greenleaf Lodge #561 and the Rajah Shrine. Don's dedication to the future generations of naval officers was unwavering, as he served as a Naval Academy Blue and Gold Admissions Officer and an advisor to the Lehigh Valley Naval Academy parents club. His influence extended to the congressional and senatorial military academy board since 1992, where his expertise and insight were invaluable. He was also past president of L.V. Thunderbird Club. An avid New York Yankees fan, Don's love for baseball was only matched by his passion for golf. He was a fixture at Whitetail Golf Course, where he served as a starter ranger for 19 years. Watching his son and grandson play golf brought him immense joy and pride. Services: A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Advent Moravian Church, 3730 Jacksonville Rd. Bethlehem, PA 18017.
