Dorthie Kaylor Obituary
Dorthie May Kaylor, 93, of Leesport, passed away March 1, 2025 at Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was predeceased by her companion George W. Bosold with whom she shared twelve years of life with.
Born September 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Newlin Deeds and Florence (Schlocter).
Dorthie was a 1949 graduate of Muhlenberg High School and a 1952 graduate of Reading Hospital School of Nursing.
During her early working years Dorthie worked the night shift as an obstetrician for five years. Sticking with the night shift, she later went on to work at the Calm Home, Reading, PA until 1974. Dorthie later moved her career to Lutheran Home at Topton where she served as the Nurse Supervisor in 1975. From 1976-1982 she worked as the Director of Nurses where she was known for running a tight ship. She was a hard working and determined woman which helped her work her way up the chain of command. Dorthie found herself working as the Director of Admissions at The Lutheran Home at Topton from 1982-1997. She retired on May 1, 1997 with a successful career in nursing and administration.
She was a life member of the Reading Hospital Alumni Association and donated all her uniforms to the Longswamp Historical Society. After retiring Dorthie was able to find time to discover new passions. She was a member of the Berks Bowling League, Muhlenberg Swimming Club, Douglassville Fire Company, and the Liederkranz. She also belonged to the Senior Neighborhood, Laureldale Center, where she would help coordinate trips. Dorthie loved to travel and would go to Georgia once a year to see her best friends, Grace and John Ludwig. One of her main joys in life was being able to travel with her partner George as well as cheering on her Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers.
Surviving are two children, Diane E. (Kaylor), wife of Jeffrey W. Prince of Hamburg, PA, and Douglas N. Kaylor Sr., husband of Roxanne Kaylor, of Temple, PA.
Also surviving are six grandchildren: Jeffrey W. Prince; Michael J. Cleary; Julie M. Breidenstein; Jake N. Kaylor; Brian S. Kaylor; and Douglas N. Kaylor Jr.
There are eleven great grandchildren surviving: Giana Kaylor; Anthony Kaylor; Alexia Kaylor; Aleah Kaylor; Landon Prince; Michael Prince; Liam Bramm; Elliana Breidenstein; Levi Kaylor; Easton Breidenstein, and Milo Kaylor.
Services will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11 A.M. at the Stitzel Family Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. A visitation will be held prior from 10 A.M - 11 A.M at the same location. Burial will follow at Laureldale Cemetery.
