Magisterial District Justice and devoted public servant, Douglas H. Schlegel, Sr., 66, of Bushkill Township, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital - Allentown Campus. He was the loving husband of Tracy A. (Hollinger) Schlegel. He was a graduate of Towanda High School, class of 1977, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to joining the court and serving two successful terms as a District Justice, Doug served as a Bushkill Township police officer. His distinguished service in law enforcement also included a 20-year-career with the Easton police force. Additionally, Doug was a lifelong firefighter, serving Bushkill Township in recent years. Fishing, hunting, paintball, and watching a good movie with his family were among his favorite pastimes, and he enjoyed spending time with his son at The Heritage Guild Shooting Range. I got to know Doug through my brother and we both realized we shared the same ancestors who traveled here from Germany in the 1740´s.
He was a great guy and I will miss seeing Doug here and there in our community.
My condolences and prayers and best wishes for Doug´s family.

To the Schlegel Family,
I am so sorry to hear about Doug's passing. I have know "Dougster" for many years, including the years spent with Easton PD all the way thru his Magistrate career. Doug was a great guy, he truly was one of the "good ones" and I will never forget how he helped me thru the hard times.
