Edmond O'Connor passed away on August 8, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 9, 1944, to the late Margaret (Baumann) and Edmond O'Connor, Edmond was the beloved husband of 57 years of Bernadette (Donley) O'Connor, loving father of Keri (Rob), Erin (Brennan), and Meghan (Ferdinando); cherished grandfather of William Connor (Delaney), Gavin, Margaret, Rory, Eamon, Hugh, Shea, and Ulysses. He was preceded in death by his siblings Patsy, Anne, and Laurie.
Ed was the youngest of four children, and the only boy in the family. He attended public elementary school, then transitioned to Catholic middle and high school-attending St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine. He excelled at basketball and baseball, and was awarded a scholarship for both at St. Francis College.
During his college years, Ed met the love of his life Bernadette, and they were married in August 1968. Soon they welcomed their three daughters, Keri, Erin, and Meghan. Ed shared his love of sports with his daughters, spending endless hours coaching them. They shared many family traditions such as looking for and cutting down the "perfect" Christmas tree, decorating the tree and the house, and playing Christmas carols all through December. They took family vacations to Trout Lake, Outer Banks, and more recently, Virginia Beach. In addition to sports, Christmas, and family vacations, Ed enjoyed the beach, boogie boarding, dancing, and talking about the weather.
Ed received an MA in Health Education from NYU and enjoyed a long career as a Physical Education and Health teacher in the NYC public school system. He also coached basketball for many years, both through the church and at the local high school.
Ed adored his grandchildren and they were an important part of his life. Sports were central to his connection with them. He could often be heard encouraging them to "get your hands ready", "follow through", and to "keep your eye on the ball". He was so proud of them, attending countless baseball, softball, football and basketball games, as well as gymnastic meets.
Ed's first airplane ride was on his honeymoon to the Bahamas; he quickly caught the travel bug and was always up for a new adventure. He and Bernadette traveled extensively throughout the US and Europe, with memorable visits to South America, Africa, and Asia. Ed was a loyal and spiritual person; he had strong faith and was devoted to our Blessed Mother.
