Edward Werkheiser Obituary

Edward H. Werkheiser, 103, formerly of Scotrun, passed away Wednesday morning, April 2, 2025 at home in Saylorsburg. He was the husband of the late Helen Marie (Detrick) Werkheiser who died August 4, 1990. Born on January 17, 1922 in Scotrun, he was a son of the late George and Nettie (Siglin) Werkheiser was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. A graduate of Pocono Township High School, he was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. Ed worked for Ronson for 27 years until retiring in 1976 when they closed; and then worked for R.M. Frantz Painting for fifteen years. He was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Scotrun; a member of the Wilson-Fischer Post American Legion in Pocono Pines and the Stroudsburg Barbershop Quartet; and was a past member of the Shawnee Ski Patrol where he served for 25 years. Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Ann Wallingford and husband Mark of Reeders and Patricia Ann Slutter and husband Rev. Timothy of Saylorsburg; four grandchildren, Timothy C. Slutter, Michael Slutter, Ryan Wallingford and Amy Wallingford; three great grandchildren, Hunter Slutter, Logan Slutter and William Slutter; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Elsie Besecker, Cora Sebring, Mary Morrone, Emily Rundle, Helen Kresge and Walter Werkheiser. A private family graveside service took place on Friday, April 4th at St. John's Cemetery in Scotrun. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 177, Scotrun, PA 18355.

A soldier from the greatest generation has passed away today. Edward, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow war veteran. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation“s defender. Farewell fellow veteran.
