Elizabeth Baine Obituary

Elizabeth Amber "Betty" Baine passed away peacefully with her family by her side June 17, 2025 at the age of 80. Betty was born August 10, 1944 in Cohasset MN and raised in International Falls MN by her loving late parents Harold and Mary Phair (née Westvik). Betty treasured telling stories of her life growing up in her idyllic small MN town that bordered Canada and we all loved listening. Betty was strong and devoted to her Catholic faith. Betty was a brilliant scholar and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Spalding University. She went on to serve as a nurse at a VA Hospital in Oregon. Even when Betty eventually left nursing, she was a constant sought after source for her emotional and bodily healing comfort by all that knew her. Betty became co-owner with her husband of the trusted Mid Atlantic Rehabilitation Management, Inc. for 30+ years. Betty was an accomplished Double Bass musician and voracious reader. She was strong willed yet vulnerable in her engaging counsel. Betty was a licensed pilot early in life. She was active in the ladies guild at St. Paul's church in East Norriton, PA. Betty was an associate member of the VVA Chapter 349 and spent years helping her husband with his duties as president. Betty loved to travel, especially with her family and friends. Betty met her best friend and husband Richard "Dick" Baine, Sr. during both of their freshman years at different universities and shared over 50 years of marriage. Betty boarded a bus going to a mixer and saw this handsome boy sitting there and asked to sit next to him. They were inseparable from then on and created a lifelong devoted partnership to be envied. Betty and Dick loved telling stories of their time stationed in Germany. Betty had the MN gift of learning everything about a person from the first meeting and making you feel completely at ease. Betty was her children's and grandchildren's biggest champion. She had unwavering adoration of her siblings and extended family. Betty was exceptional. Betty was the adoring wife of late Richard J. "Dick" Baine Sr., cherished mom of Kristin (Michael) Kutzmonich, Richard J. Baine Jr. (Karen), Catherine (Eric) Von Holtum, Patrick (Dina) Baine. Beloved Grammy to Michael, Victoria, Erin, Richard III, Sydney, Greyson, Alexis, Kylie, JT, Sophia. Great Grammy to Mikayla and Michael. Loving sister to Gwen Kosi, Margaret (David) Lewis, Iris (Peter) Acutt, David (Karen) Phair, Janet Phair and the late brother Douglass (Sue) Phair. Loved sister in law to Larry (Liz) Baine and many nieces, nephews and friends. Betty is predeceased by her brother's and sister's in law Robert P. Baine Sr. (Maureen), Catherine Coleman (Donald), and Patricia Lorsbach (Jack) and niece Monica Kosi. Relatives and friends are invited to Betty's visitation on Monday June 30, 2025 from 9 am to 9:50 am with her Funeral Mass to follow at St. Paul's RC Church of East Norriton, 2007 New Hope Street. Interment will be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery July 3, 2025 at 11:30 am. Donations in Betty's memory can be made to St. Jude's Hospital. Betty and I were friends since they moved too International Falls. We both attended St. Thomas Catholic School and graduated from Falls Senior High School in 1962. We enjoyed ice skating at our local rink and shared our love of reading. I was blessed to know her during her younger years in MN.
