Emery Louis Ashton Jr., 80, of
Quakertown, PA, a man beloved by many and known for his kind, loving, caring and humorous personality, traded his earthly residence for an eternity in heaven on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at his residence in
Quakertown, PA.
He passed away after struggling with congestive heart failure caused by his fight to beat cancer 20 years previously.
Emery was born on May 20, 1945, in
Philadelphia, PA to Emery Ashton Sr. and Daisy Ashton (Smithey) who both preceded him in death.
He fell in love at the age of 19 with the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Diana Thompson Ashton whom he met at Wissahickon High School in Ambler, PA. They had a bond that could not be broken, and their marriage was truly a reflection of their commitment to each other and their family but most importantly to their personal relationship and commitment to God.
Emery and Diana then went on to create their family with two daughters, Monica Ashton Korr (Steven Korr) and Rebecca Ashton-Connery (John Connery Jr.). They were then blessed with grandchildren, Timothy Korr, Jasmine Korr Chiazor (Chukwujindu Chiazor), and Jaden Ashton. God saw fit to add even more joy to their family with the addition of two great grandsons, Malachi Chiazor and Maverick Chiazor.
At the time of his passing, Emery and Diana were anticipating the arrival of a great-granddaughter who will arrive later this year, whom he was excited to meet and was thankful for the additional blessing from God.
Emery started out in life as a truck driver working for multiple companies starting with E. A. Dages in
Montgomeryville, PA, Lehigh Valley Dairies in
Lansdale, PA, and Farm & Home Oil Company in Telford PA. He then chose to switch careers and worked at Faulkner Ford in
Quakertown, PA as a salesman. Later, he found his true calling working on the care team at Calvary Church in
Souderton, PA. In this role, Emery had the opportunity to use his God given gifts to care for a multitude of individuals and families who were struggling financially, emotionally, physically and spiritually. He did this in such a humble way that not even his family knew the full impact he had on these lives. Care and humility exuded so naturally from Emery and no matter what he was going through personally, he served with a smile on his face, with a laughter that people frequently talked about and he allowed himself to be a true servant of God. He also was quite a jokester which also made him even more endearing to others. Emery ended his working career as a driver for Bucks County Transport in Holicong, PA.
Emery also served as a volunteer throughout his life. Emery volunteered at Calvary Church in various roles which included large group ministries. In this capacity he oversaw The Final Act, The Men's Breakfast Bowl, and the Outdoor Expo. These were things that he loved doing as they reached many throughout the community and even other counties and states. Additionally, Emery volunteered in his community. He served on the board of Richland Township Parks and Recreation where he oversaw the township's community day, and he also served on the Richland Township Zoning Board. Both organizations were something that he was very proud to be a part of.
Emery's joy in life came from spending time with his family, traveling, (mostly to Disney World and cruising), spending time weekly with his cherished friends, but most importantly from his relationship with Jesus Christ. He became a Christian in his early 20's at Calvary Baptist Church in
Lansdale, PA and was passionate about sharing the love of our Lord with others. He was a loyal servant of God and led a life devoted to Him. Emery has now passed into the arms of our Lord and Saviour, and his physical life is over, but he is beginning an eternal life with God who was the most important relationship in his life.
Emery was preceded in death by his in-laws, John Thompson Sr, and Billie Jean Thompson as well as multiple brother and sister in laws. He is survived by his brother, Larry Ashton as well as two brother-in-laws, Walter Terry Thompson (Vanessa Thompson), and Ralph Gaymon and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Calvary Church, located at 820 Route 113,
Souderton, PA 18964 on Saturday, March 28, 2026, beginning at 2:00pm. Following the service there will be a time of light refreshments where friends may greet the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Calvary Church Care Ministry in
Souderton, PA, a ministry that Emery devoted much of his time to and was extremely close to his heart.
Arrangements are entrusted to Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory,
Souderton, Pennsylvania. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.andersfh.com.
