Evelyn Oravec Obituary

Evelyn J. (Miller) Oravec, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, at the age of 95, with her husband by her side. Born on March 9, 1930, in Forks Township, Pennsylvania, Evelyn brought joy and love to everyone. The heart of Evelyn's world was her family. She shared a deep bond with her husband, Louis F. Oravec, Sr.. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Dean Dutko and Louis F. "Lou" Oravec, Jr. Her love and generosity extended to her four cherished grandchildren who called her Nana. To Parker and Cole, she was "Hockey Grandma", attending practices and games when she visited, and later at 90, she got an iPad and would FaceTime them as much as she could. To Jake and Brock, she never missed a band concert and cheered proudly for the Stroudsburg Marching Band at numerous football games. She attended every Boy Scout spaghetti dinner and was the proud Nana of two Eagle Scouts, supporting them all the way. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Victor Miller and Bertha Brown, her half-siblings Ethel, Margaret, Ruth, George, and Lloyd, and her sisters Gladys Tucker, Doris Hall, and Elsie Fonte. Evelyn was close with all of her eight siblings. She lived with Ruth for many years and kept in touch with all when they became spread out. The bond between the "four Miller girls", each born two years apart, extended throughout their lives to decades of lunches and sister gatherings. It has only been within the last five years that God started calling them home one by one, with Evelyn being the last. Evelyn had a large family that included many nieces and nephews, both on her side and the ones she gained in marriage. She made sure she was an active part in each of their lives, with the love of "Aunt Ev" extending to their children and beyond. There were many gatherings, card games, and dessert nights where lasting memories were created. She was loved dearly. Evelyn spent her early years in Easton, Pennsylvania growing up with her sisters on the Bushkill Creek. She lived in various places, but eventually settled in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. There were many years on Rutland Road and Whitehall Avenue where neighbors were like family and all of the kids grew up together. She lived on Chester Avenue where many of her apartment neighbors are still friends today. Evelyn lastly resided in Bethlehem Manor where she was very fortunate to have great care to be home with her husband for her final days. Evelyn' served as a supervisor at Magnetic Windings in Palmer Township for 20 years, where her leadership and camaraderie earned her the admiration of colleagues who became lifelong friends. It was during this time that Evelyn played on a Women's Softball Team, always remembering the fun they had. She later worked for 18 years at Boise Cascade, retiring with a legacy of commitment that touched many lives. Numerous lunch reunions extended long after her retirements. A vibrant presence in her community, Evelyn's enthusiasm for life was infectious. She loved country line dancing and found joy in the OLPH Fellowship Club, Bunco Club, and the Red Hat Society, where her knack for connection created lasting friendships. It was the Red Hats that were very dear to Evelyn's heart. She belonged to many chapters throughout the years with the "Crimson Hatted Cruisers" being her current chapter of membership. She loved monthly lunches, game days, trips, shows, and the birthday bash. Her cherished "Red Hat" ladies made sure she attended events up until right before her passing and were at her side in her brief illness. Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband, Louis F. Oravec, Sr.; her sons, Dean Dutko and his wife, Kathleen, of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and Louis F. Oravec, Jr. and his wife, Mary Kelly, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; her four adored grandchildren, Parker and Cole Dutko, and Jake and Brock Oravec; her sister in law, Marie Oravec of Orefield, Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
