Frederick Barkalow Obituary
Frederick D. Barkalow III,age 89, of Brodheadsville, PA, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at his son's residence in Seminole, FL.
Born in Newark, NJ, on January 18, 1936, he was the son of the late Hans and Angelina (Labriola) Barkalow. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret Anne "Peggy" (Ryan) Barkalow, who predeceased him on March 20, 2003.
Frederick dedicated his career to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 102, in New Jersey, where he worked proudly as an electrician. His life was one of steady service, loyalty, and commitment to both his profession and those he loved.
He was a former member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert, PA, and was actively involved with the Pocono Slate Belt Shooting Association and the Amateur Trap Shooters Association. Beyond his work and memberships, Frederick found great joy in lifelong learning. He was an avid reader with a deep passion for history, always eager to explore and reflect on the past.
Fred will always be remembered for his sense of humor and infectious smile, which brightened the lives of all who knew him. His greatest fulfillment, however, came from the love of his family. He leaves behind his children: Staci A. Berry and husband Arthur of Key Largo, FL; Frederick D. Barkalow IV and wife Maria of Saylorsburg, PA; and Derrick H. R. Barkalow and wife Bria of Seminole, FL. He was a cherished grandfather to Tony Barkalow, Selena Barkalow, Blake Schneider, and Margaret "Maggie" Barkalow, and a great-grandfather to Gabriella. He is also survived by his brother, John Barkalow and wife Carol of Freehold, NJ; cousins Bob and Sue Barkalow; and his lifelong best friend, John Mullen.
Frederick will be remembered as a man of quiet strength, sharp wit, and steadfast love for his family. Those who knew him will carry his memory with warmth, gratitude, and affection.
Family and friends are invited to offer their condolences on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1426 Route 209, Gilbert, PA. Following the visitation, Frederick will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Buena Vista Cemetery in Brodheadsville, PA.
