Gertrude Metzgar Obituary

Gertrude "Polly" Metzgar,95, of Hamilton Township, passed away Sunday morning, May 11, 2025 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Hamilton Township. She was the widow of Edward F. Metzgar who died in 1989. Born on March 18, 1930 in Swiftwater, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Ethel (Bogert) Rowe and was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. Polly was a homemaker, taking joy in raising her five children; and a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Swiftwater. Surviving are two daughters, Janice Smith and husband Dennis of Norwich, NY, and Betsy Palmer of Cresco; 6 grandchildren, Suzanne Adams (Chuck Gleim), Sandra Adams (Frank Tarver), Eric Palmer (Linnea), Gillian Schwartz (Todd), Peter Desmond Jr. (Jessica) and Katrina Adams; 12 great grandchildren, Brittney, Bethany, Mallory, Angela, Austin, William, Remy, Jarryd, Jayden Tarver, Jordan, Jayden Townsend and Kaeghan; and 4 great great grandchildren Isabella, Alexandra, Rosemarie and Luna. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three children, Ruth Adams, David Metzgar and Jeffry Metzgar; a sister, Emma Ruth Metzgar; and a brother, Arthur Rowe. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 18th at 11am at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 153 Lower Swiftwater Road, Swiftwater. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church. Please bring a dish to pass. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg PA 18360 to help defray funeral expenses. William H. Clark Funeral Home, Inc.
