Harriet Rauenzahn Obituary

Harriet D. (Shearer) Rauenzahn was born in March of 1942 and died peacefully of natural causes on October 2, 2025 at Phoebe Berks. Born and raised on the Shearer family farm in Fritztown, PA, she lived the last two and a half years at Phoebe Berks in Wernersville. Previously she lived in Wyomissing with her husband of 54 years, Don, who died in December 2021. Harriet was the daughter of the late Robert Keiser Shearer and Velma(Turbitt) Shearer. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1960 and continued on to graduate from Bryn Mawr College majoring in English. Later she earneda Masters in Teaching at Wesleyan University. Upon returning back home,she taught English in the Reading School District for nine years. Then a life long love of music inspired her to earn a degree in Sacred Music from Lebanon Valley College, and to pursue her second career playing the organ at local churches and teaching piano to many youngsters and adults. Harriet was predeceased by her brother Jonathan Shearer in 1991, and is survived by her beloveddog Bianca, her sister Marjorie Shearer and spouse Laurie Saren, many cousins, nephews, a niece, and great nieces. A gathering of friends and relatives at Calvary U.C.C. at 640 Centre Ave, Reading, PA on Saturday, November 8, will start at 10:30 a.m. with a service at I I a.m. Following which you are welcome to join us for a visit to Gernant's Cemetery, Leesport, PA to honor Harriet and Don. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Harriet Rauenzahn's love of animals to Red Creek Wildlife Center Schuylkill County and/or the Holy Spirit Farm and Horse Sanctuary, 131 Justa Road, Wernersville, PA. 19565 John P.
