Etzer began his career in Haiti as a tailor before immigrating to the United States on January 8, 1988. With determination and sacrifice, he worked (diligently) to provide for his family, later reuniting with them in March 1994. (He raised his family in Orange, New Jersey, and went on to build a career as a bus driver with Coach USA. Alongside his work, he was a proud member of The Good Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in South Orange.) After moving to Reading, PA, he worked in nursing until retirement.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Etzer lived a life marked by faith, humility, and service. He was a Maestro and Deacon at both Christ Is Risen Church and Zion Church of God in Reading, where he faithfully led choirs in worship. A gifted musician, he played the accordion, saxophone, and piano with joy and dedication.
Etzer was a man with a calm spirit, loved by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed gardening, singing, celebrating holidays with his family, attending his grandchildren's events, and being present for his community. He could talk to anyone and left each person with a sense of warmth and welcome.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jesumene "Memen" Exume; six children, Marie Danite Esther Julien, Jean Michi Fredo Exume, Jean Raould Francis Exume, Josue Exume, Berline Exume, and Jasmine Exume; seven grandchildren, Kayla Marie Julien, Jaliah Faith Exume, Amelia Rose Exume, Jova Leigh Exume, Jalen Prince Exume, and Zion Kylian Exume, Jordan Raould Exume; and 22 nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his siblings Jean Eliodor, Marie Lourdes, Brutus, and DonFred. He was predeceased by his siblings Solange, Roger, and Gilbert.
Etzer will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to God, his family, and his church. His calm manner, gentle presence, and love for people will be greatly missed by all.
