Jimmie Butler Obituary

Life Reflections Jimmie Butler, 81, passed away on February 26, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Emma Jean Butler, with whom he shared sixty years of marriage. Jimmie was born July 31, 1943, and raised in Lee County, Opelika, Alabama, the son of the late Louise Butler and Walker Smith, Jr. He completed his education at JW Darden High School and Penn State University. He served four years in the United States Air Force, where he was assigned to the 42nd Heavy Bombardment Wing in Limestone, Maine. As an Aircraft and Missile Maintenance Technician, Mr. Butler worked on B52 bombers, specializing in flight controls, landing gears, and ejection seats. Following his military service, Jimmie held positions in manufacturing before committing himself to public service, where he built a distinguished career. He served with the Reading Police Department, the Pennsylvania Inspector General's Office, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office. At the AG's Office, his responsibilities included investigating Medicare fraud, conducting criminal history audits, and performing undercover operations. After twenty years of dedicated service, Jimmie retired from the Attorney General's Office. Subsequently, he contributed his skills and expertise to Stokes Stitt Funeral Home and TJ Baker Funeral Home, serving as Director's Assistant for over ten years. Jimmie embraced his faith early in life, accepting the Lord as his personal savior. He was involved in various organizations including the Boy Scouts, George Washington Carver American Legion Post 962, Victor Lodge #73, and Berks Lodge #47. Known for his willingness to assist others, Jimmie was deeply committed to his family, particularly his grandsons. He will be fondly remembered for his interactions with neighbors and the community while sitting on his front porch. Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Emma Jean Butler; his children, Wynton Butler (Tonya) of Reading, Sheshanna Joy Butler of Royersford, Yolanda Carter of Cincinnati and Gwendolyn Bah; his grandchildren: Gary Hopkins III, Wynton Butler II, Wesley Butler, Christopher Holmes, Jr., Elizabeth Camara and Abdul Camara; and his five (5) great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
