John Dawson Obituary

In Loving Memory of John James Dawson It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John James Dawson, who passed away peacefully on his 83rd birthday, March 4th, 2025. John was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan, in 2000. He is survived by his son, John Jr., and his wife Wendy; his daughter, Dianne, and her companion Joe; his sister-in-law, Carol, and her husband David; and his loving companion Mary, who brought him love and joy in his later years. John's legacy also lives on through his five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two nieces, and one nephew. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Charlotte, his sister Joanne, his mother-in-law Pauline, his father in-law Clarke, sister-in-law Phyllis, and his son-in-law Thomas. He is now reunited with his loved ones, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Born and raised in New York, John was a proud graduate of Port Jefferson High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy for ten years, including time stationed on the Brinkley Bass in the 1960s. John was always deeply proud of his military service and carried that pride throughout his life. In 1980, John and his late wife Joan founded National Footwear in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a business that continues to thrive in its 44th year. John took great pride in his work and enjoyed being a part of the local community. He was known for his friendly nature, always eager to share stories and engage in conversation. Whether with his Thursday night dinner buddies or during the annual Army-Navy games. John cherished the connections he made with others. A man of deep faith and community involvement, John was a past president of the TPA, a 4th-degree Knight of Columbus, and a past president of the Columbian Home. He also served as past commander of the Honorary First Defenders and was a life member of the American Legion. He was an active member of the Cetronia Fire Company Social Club, the AOH Lehigh County Division 1, and past member of Allentown Duffers golf league and past member KOC golf league. John was a proud member of the Cathedral Parish of Saint Catharine of Siena. John's family and friends will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his life on March 22nd at Resurrection Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest at 11:00 a.m. A light luncheon will follow at the Cetronia Fire Company Social Club, as we come together to reflect on the life and achievements of a truly remarkable man. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John's memory to organizations such as the American Legion Charities, the Wounded Warrior Project, or the Military Veteran Project, as a way to honor his service and commitment to others. John's legacy of kindness, service, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire and guide us all.
