John Robert "Bobby" Engels

John "Bobby" Robert Engels, age 66 of Polk Township, Kunkletown, PA formerly of Bayonne, NJ, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital- Monroe Campus in Stroudsburg, PA. Bobby was born in Kearny, NJ on August 14, 1959, son of the late Robert John and Loretta (Patla) Engels. Bobby was the kind of man whose presence could light up a room- warm, generous and endlessly loving. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He found wonder in the world around him and joy every day. He was a caring and passionate man, devoting his life to family and his community. Bobby served his community all his life. He was the founder of the Kearny Volunteer Ambulance Association and served as an EMT, he worked as a firefighter for the Newark Fire Company in Newark, NJ. After moving to Pocono's in 2017, he served his community as a Polk Township Fire Police Captain, he also served as a firefighter for the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company in Kresgeville, PA. Bobby was of the catholic faith. We have been blessed with the presence of Bobby in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his loving daughters: Mercedes Engels of Jersey City, NJ, Melissa Castellano and spouse Michael of Hewitt, NJ, Taylor Engels and Brittney Engels both of Kunkletown, PA. He was the loving grandfather to: Ava Ortiz, Adrianna Castellano and Michael Castellano Jr. Bobby is also survived by his sisters: Susan "Hank" Engels of Effort, PA, Tina Russo and spouse Matthew of Hoboken, NJ, Lisa Whesper of Brodheadsville, PA and Colleen Engels of Kunkletown, PA and many nieces, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1426 Route 209, Gilbert, PA followed by a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gilbert, PA Bobby will be laid to rest at the Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert, PA.
