John Forlini Obituary

John Michael Forlini lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on December 28th at the age of seventy-five. Born in Reading, he completed his entire education from kindergarten through graduation from Albright College on 13th street a few blocks from where he grew up on North 16th street. John served in the naval reserves with his active duty in Naples, Italy where he and his wife Christine lived for two years. They spent his off duty time traveling and exploring many countries and local sites. At the end of his active duty, they returned to Reading with their first three of many rescue dogs and cats. John taught history and worked for Aetna Insurance as an underwriter and eventually made his career with the US Postal Service, retiring as post master of Birdsboro in 2009. John's passion was music, and he enjoyed playing guitar with several bands for over 50 years. He also loved the beach, spending time with family and friends at the Jersey Shore throughout the years. He coached both of his daughters in softball and enjoyed watching his grandson's baseball games. He played baseball and softball for much of his life. John is survived by his wife Christine (Smith) with whom he celebrated fifty-three years of marriage this past June, his daughters Ashley Peterson (Jon), of Palm Beach Gardens Florida, Jordan Forlini of Reading, three grandsons Greyson, Avery and Harrison Peterson (who affectionately call him Leroy), his mother Elizabeth Forlini (Breen), his siblings Peter Forlini (Cindy), Patricia Barrell (Glenn), Debra Hart (Russell), and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John J. Forlini. Service and burial are private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, 58 Kennel Road Birdsboro, Pa 19508. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.

John and I grew up as neighbors and friends in the area just adjacent to Albright College in Reading, PA. While John was two years younger, we had a whole gang of similar aged boys that called that neighborhood home. We road bikes, built forts in the nearby wooded area, had "dirt bomb" fights(John carried a scar on his forehead from one of my dirt bombs), and we played sports together. It was a magical time with no cares or worries, where the street lights going on signaled time to head home tired and dirty from a days play. John and his brother Pete will be long remembered. John and I were part of the 13th Street Gang that went kindergarten through college on one street. I will miss John, but remember him always.

My sincere condolences to Chris, Ashley and Jordon, who along with John we shared several fun evenings together as our girls grew up in Exeter Township. Having moved out of the area, it's been years since I've seen the family, but hearing this news I simply had to respond. John and Chris introduced me to hot tubs, and I still use them religiously today. John was a quiet, warm, talented and extremely nice man! May he rest in peace!

Remembering wonderful years of friendship with Johnny, Chris and the girls. It all started when we worked with Johnny at Aetna Insurance, followed by picnics, Christmas Eves together, annual beach trips to Sea Isle City, a brief period of home brewing beer, and countless other memories. We´ll remember his great sense of humor and love of sports; a good and kind man. Our deepest condolences to the Forlini family. Rest in peace, Johnny. Love, Len and Deb Dombroski
