John Gebhart Obituary

John J. Gebhart, 82, of Upper Milford Township, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025 in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. He and his life-time companion, Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Miller) Conway, shared more than 55 years together. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Stanton and Mathilde M. (Leary) Gebhart. John was a graduate of Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. John was a courageous helicopter gunner, serving two tours in Vietnam from 1965-1967. John was the owner of "Pal Employment Agency" in Philadelphia for many years until retiring. In retirement, John proudly established the "Iron Triangle Paintball Club" on his five-acre property. He was an avid shooter, belonging to various local organizations. John was also an accomplished author of two books ("LBJ's Hired Gun" and "Spray and Pray"), lecturer and military historian of helicopter warfare in Vietnam. Survivors: His loving companion, Betty; sister, Marie Richter of Fairfax, Virginia; niece, Dominique Cloutier; nephew, Jon A. Miskell; cousins and their families. Services: A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 15, 2025 in the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, 46 E. Susquehanna Street, Allentown. A viewing for relatives and friends will be held from 12 PM until the time of the service. Those who wish to attend John's interment service are asked to arrive at the cemetery prior to 2 PM and line your cars up behind the office building at the grouping area. An attendant will lead all cars back to the service area promptly at 2 PM. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

A marine Vietnam Veteran has passed away today. John, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow Vietnam Veteran. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow war veteran.
