Jose Centeno Obituary

Jose Antonio Centeno, a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 3, 1944, in the beautiful town of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Jose's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter brought joy to all who knew him. Jose's life was marked by a profound commitment to his family, his country, and his community. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Rosario) Centeno, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and memories. Together, they raised a wonderful family, including their children Mayra Centeno of Linden, NJ, Madeline Butler and her husband Rodney of Sumter, SC, Jose Centeno of Easton, PA, Jared Centeno of Bethlehem, PA, and Vanessa Trinidad and her husband Mario of Bethlehem, PA. Jose was a pillar of strength and a source of wisdom for his siblings Milagros Centeno, Maria Centeno, Nelida Centeno and Concepcion Centeno. His legacy will live on through his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will continue to be inspired by his life. Predeceased by his parents, Nicomedes Centeno and Genoveva (Rubert) Centeno, his daughter Bethzaida Nettles, and his sister Celestina Centeno, Jose's memory will be honored by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Jose's service to his nation was exemplified by his time in the US Army during the Vietnam War. His bravery and dedication were hallmarks of his character, and his experiences forged in him a deep sense of patriotism and camaraderie. Upon returning to civilian life, Jose embarked on a career as a Chemical Operator at Essex Chemical, where he was respected by his colleagues for his work ethic and integrity. A man of unwavering faith, Jose was a devoted member of the Central Assembly of God. His spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence, offering him comfort and guidance throughout his years. As a faithful member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, he found brotherhood and support among fellow veterans, sharing stories and offering solace to those who served alongside him. Jose's generosity knew no bounds, as evidenced by his involvement with the Central Provision Food Pantry. He helped feed the community, ensuring that those in need were met with kindness and sustenance. His love for laughter was contagious, and Jose was always ready with a joke to lighten the hearts of friends and strangers alike. As we bid farewell to Jose Antonio Centeno, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with service, laughter, and love. His spirit will continue to guide us, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched. Jose's journey on this earth may have concluded, but the stories of his kindness, bravery, and humor will be recounted for generations to come. Services: A Funeral Service will be held at 12 P.M. on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Central Assembly of God, 1300 Eaton Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18018, where family will receive relatives and friends from 10 A.M. until the start of the service. Interment will be private at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Jose's services have been entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem.
