Margaret Brown Obituary

Margaret A. "Peggy" Brown, age 85, passed peacefully into the Lord's Hands on September 19, 2025, at her home in Allentown. Peggy was born in Allentown on December 7, 1939, to the late William I. and Isabelle A. (Whitby) Billowitch. She was married to the late Richard P. Brown, who passed away in 2009. Peggy was a proud graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School, Class of 1957, and was on the reunion committee for many years. She worked for 18 years at Hess's Department Store as a secretary and was there at its closing. She also worked for Laidlaw Transportation until retirement. Peggy was an avid reader and never met a book she didn't like, and she maintained her renowned sense of humor and optimism until the end. She was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and recently enjoyed a bucket-list trip to their spring training camp in Clearwater, FL. Peggy was deeply proud of her family, which was always her top priority. She was also a longstanding member of St. Paul's Catholic Church of Allentown. Survivors: Peggy is survived by her daughters, Peggy Sue Brown and Denise Brown (Gary Phillips) of Allentown, and Marie Hoobler (Todd) of Powder Springs, GA; sons, Rick Brown (Sara) of Arvada, CO and Bill Brown (Stephanie) of Naples, FL and Minneapolis, MN. She was a proud grandmother of Megan Brown of Dallas, TX, Dan Brown (Lane) of Fairfield, CA, Angela Brown of New York City, Natalie Brown of Tampa, FL and Jessica Hoobler of Powder Springs, GA; one great-grandson, Elliott James; sister-in-law, Rosalie Billowitch; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, son James Brown, sister Delores Smith and brother William Billowitch. Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on at 11 AM on Thursday, September 25, 2025 in St. Paul's R.C. Church, 920 S. 2nd Street, Allentown. A viewing will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service in the church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Wescosville. Arrangements are entrusted to the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, Allentown. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations can be made in Margaret's memory to the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, 100 W. School House Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19144 or online at www.psd.org.

Earlier today

Marie,
So sorry about the loss of both your parents. I remember as kids having our Friday night sleepovers and pizza! Your parents were always so kind and welcoming. Your dad would tell jokes and your mom was always give hugs. Think the last time we were together was at Jessica's first or second birthday. Wow, time has flown by. You are in my thoughts -

So sorry to hear about your mom's passing. She was a great person and neighbor. I have fond memories of the kids that grew up and the neighbors on South Second St.
Your whole family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Earlier today

Margaret and I worked together for many years at Laidlaw. I used to pick her up in the morning and drop her off at home after work. We shared sooo many stories during those rides. She was way more than just a co-worker and had a heart of gold! She had a book in her hand every second she could. My sincere condolences to the family. She will be deeply missed.
