Marie Knight Obituary

Marie Teresa Knight, 95, a resident of Harleysville, PA, since 1960, passed away at home with her family by her side on Thursday afternoon, September 11, 2025. She was the wife of the late Alexander Knight who passed away in 1979. Born December 14, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the second of eight children of Frank and Mary (Weiticha) Rawa. When she was two years old, the family moved to a house that her father built in Hilltown, PA. She attended a one-room schoolhouse at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and later graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Wyncote, PA. Upon graduation, she began work as a secretary at Folke, Knight & Porter, a law firm in Ambler, PA. It was that she met her future husband, Alexander Knight, who she married in 1956. Marie and her sister Sue volunteered at the Lansdale Medical Corps and she was also very active with the Ambler women's group. She and her husband moved to Harleysville, PA, in 1960, where they raised their three children, Alexander Knight, Jr., Mary Ann "Tykie" Knight, and David Harold Knight. She also raised her stepson, Richard Knight. In addition to her children, Marie loved her adopted son, Michael Burke, her sister Sue's child, who spent many summers with the Knight children. Every summer, Marie and Alexander hosted pool parties every other weekend for Marie's extended family. They also raised two steers on the farm every year, affectionally known as Filet and Mignon, and had peacocks, horses, turkeys and lambs. Marie was a member of Old York Road Country Club since 1964. She was an avid golfer, played bridge and bowled. Marie and Alexander loved to travel with his sister Nancy Gifford and Marie's sister Sue and her husband, Sam. After her husband's passing, she continued to partner with Tykie at bridge and traveled extensively to destinations including France, Austria, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Egypt, Ireland, Wales, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada and Greece. Marie was an avid gardener and birder. Her many birdfeeders were always full and her favorite color was yellow. Surviving are three children, Alexander Knight, Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Red Hill, PA, Mary Ann "Tykie" Knight, of Harleysville, PA, and David Harold Knight and his wife, Julie, of Red Hill, PA; two brothers, Frank and John Rawa; and sisters-in-law, Carol and Barbara Rawa. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at 11 am on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 40 Spring Mount Rd., Schwenksville, PA 19473, where family will receive friends beginning at 10 am. A funeral luncheon will follow at Old York Road Country Club, 801 Tennis Ave., Ambler, PA. Interment at Whitemarsh Memorial Park will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St Mary's School at 40 Spring Mount Road, Schwenksville, PA 19473, or to Shepherd's Shelf Food Pantry, 2211 Mainland Road, Harleysville, PA 19438.
