Mark Ambrose Obituary
Mark N. Ambrose, 55, of Allentown, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025.
"All babies and dogs sense and know my kind and gentle heart" was one of Mark's favorite quotes-something he often said about himself. And honestly, everything about that phrase is true.
Mark could do anything he set his mind to.
Though he earned a degree in Business Administration from Delaware Valley College (DVC), that doesn't begin to capture the depth of his talents. Mark was a true entrepreneur-designing, testing, manufacturing, importing, marketing and selling a wide array of outdoor sports equipment. His business supported his family and several employees over the years. His love for fishing took him to many places, including his favorite spots in the Bahamas. On work trips or family vacations, Mark shared his passion for tropical fish, sea turtles, and Piggyville with his parents, nephews, and friends.
A proud "dance dad," Mark sold Irish dance shoes and socks. He even designed and sourced a one-of-a-kind bag to carry the fancy dresses, wigs, shoes, and supplies needed for competitions. Whenever he saw a need-especially where his daughters Isabelle, Kathryn, and Emma were concerned-he found a way to meet it. An avid cook, Mark was known for making birthday cakes and dinners that outshined the rest. He renovated his kitchen himself, building a stone arched wall to match the original stonework, worked on many fix-it projects, and taught his girls skills like tiling and plumbing along the way. And his Shrek family trick-or-treat costumes with paper mache heads lasted for years!
Generous, kind, and always sharing-Mark loved giving his time, his kind words, and anything he had-whether auction finds or a great meal.
He and Sally created a warm and loving home. They welcomed many long-term guests, starting with Katie and Emily, who spent summers in Tampa during high school and college, and then friends of their girls, who always felt like family. In fact, Jon, a dear friend of the family, was formally welcomed as a son-in-law just earlier this summer.
Living in Florida, Mark was a true Bucs fan-hosting game-day parties with opponent-themed meals that made each game memorable. After moving to Pennsylvania, he adopted the Eagles as his team-and expanded his college game day choices when his daughters enrolled at West Virginia and Penn State.
A talented athlete, Mark earned local, regional, and national awards for his athleticism during high school at Huntington Area High School and at Delaware Valley College including National Wrestling Individual and Team Championships, four National All-American and Academic All-American Awards-a source of great pride for his parents, Malcolm and Donna, and brother, Scott.
Mark will be deeply missed by his family: daughters Isabelle Ambrose Pohorylo and son-in-law Jon; Kathryn and Emma Ambrose; Sean Hunter; his wife of 34 years, Sally Ambrose; brother Scott Ambrose and sister-in-law Julie Ambrose and their sons Zach Ambrose and Collin Ambrose all of the Lehigh Valley; and his parents Malcolm and Donna Ambrose and in-laws Edmund and Rita Gargula of Huntingdon, PA. He was pre-deceased by Jasper Steven Ambrose.
Mark enjoyed the love of extended family with cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews in Florida, North Carolina, Missouri, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maine and New York.
Mark's warmth, humor, and love will be missed but always remembered.
