Mary K. Clarke

Mary K. "Kathy" Clarke (nee Brockson), age 90, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away on August 6, 2025. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Dowd, and her second husband, Robert Clarke. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harold Mason and Mary Margaret Brockson (nee Hennelly). Kathy attended West Catholic High School, West Chester State Teachers College, and earned her master's degree at Saint Joseph's College. Kathy taught in the elementary grades and enrichment programs in the Upper Darby School District for 35 years. She loved traveling, golf, researching her family ancestry, and sharing her home in Brigantine, NJ with her friends and family. She was very active in her communities, serving as a member of the Brigantine Gardening Club, the Upper Darby Historical Society, the President of the Springfield Women's Club, and President of the Sharon Hill Historical Society. She even co-authored a book about the history of Sharon Hill. Kathy was a dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her siblings, Frank Brockson (Christine), Edward Brockson, and Margaret Foster (Bernard, deceased); and sons-in-law Francis Downey and Spencer Manthorpe. She is survived by three stepdaughters, Patricia Downey, Linda Manthorpe, and Nancy Vizzard (Joseph); grandchildren Allison (Nate), Kimberly (Idir), Colleen, Shelbey (Colin), Stacey (Gary), Robbie, Sidney, Veronica (Jon), Arden (Benjamin), and Andrew; great-grandchildren Adam, Kendall, Neve, Lainey, and Theo; and many nieces and nephews who were especially devoted to the care and comfort of "Aunt Cass." Visitation for friends and family will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 9:00 -10:15 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Rd., Glen Mills, PA. The Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. and will be live-streamed on the church's website. https://staparishgm.org/live-stream-mass Interment will take place at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Cemetery.
