Richard Waibel Obituary

Richard A. Waibel, 79, of Stroud Township, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, May 31, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital- Monroe Campus. Born on November 27, 1945, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of the late Herman and Mildred (Jacobs) Waibel. He attended Ben Franklin High School and graduated with honors from The University of Scranton. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his discharge, he continued working for the Department of Defense, with assignments that included Fort Knox. He later continued his federal service at Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey, where he played a significant role in efforts to prevent the proposed closure of the facility - a cause he passionately championed. Richard moved to Monroe County in 1980. He was an active participant in the local Republican Committee and volunteered his time with organizations including the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, United Way, and the former RSVP volunteer network. Among his proudest accomplishments was being a founding member of the Pocono Mountain Youth Soccer Association, where he helped foster youth development and community spirit through sports. He is survived by his three children: Jeffrey S. Waibel of Stroud Township; Gretchen Uitdenhowen and her husband, Jamie, of Sparta, NJ; and Karen Bixler and her husband, Dan, of Lansdale, PA. He was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Elise & Maeve Uitdenhowen and Quint, Reed & Lydia Bixler. He is also survived by his former wife, Margaret Waibel of Pocono Summit; and several nieces and nephews, including Jason Waibel. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Waibel. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7, beginning at 12:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, an organization close to Richard's heart. William H. Clark Funeral Home, Inc.

I am so sad to hear of your passing Richard. You were one of my favorite owners with Vacasa! I loved hearing all your stories of Monterey back in your younger years in the service. I was just about to send you some updated photos of the Wharf from my recent vacation and found you had passed. My heart hurts for your family and for Karen whom I know you were very close to. RIP MY FRIEND

My condolences to Richard's family. I met him when he volunteered his services on behalf of the Monroe County Hospice House. He had a wonderful sense of humor, mischievous eyes, and was so capable in all he did. God rest your soul Richard.
