Robert Doyle Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Thomas Doyle, our beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother -in-law, uncle, and friend to many. Bob was a man with a big heart. He was a kind soul who was always willing to help those in need. He had a multitude of friends who lasted a lifetime. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and was honored to talk about his experiences in the military, especially serving on the ship that was actively engaged in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He always loved to tell the story of how he shook hands with President Eisenhower and Charles de Gaulle at the Eiffel Tower while he was on leave in Paris. Bob was the son of Gordon B. Doyle and Harriet Ritter Doyle. He was born on July 25, 1940, in Easton, PA. He had two older brothers, Gordon (known as Tim), and William. Following high school graduation from Allentown High School in 1958, he then enlisted in the United States Navy. He toured throughout Europe and was stationed on the ship, Franklin D. Roosevelt. He became a registered plumber and worked for various contractors throughout the Lehigh Valley. He was an instructor for several years for the Adult Plumbing Trade Program at Lehigh County Community College. He retired from the St. Luke's Hospital Engineering Department, Bethlehem, PA, in 2005. Bob was a "jack of all trades. He could build anything and was also a crafter of jewelry. His nickname was "MacGyver". His greatest achievement was the role of father and grandfather. He loved spending time playing with his children, grandchildren, visiting the Jersey Shore, playing the lottery, and pinball machines. He was a former member of the Alton Park Lions Club as well as a former member St. Francis of Assisi Church, Allentown, PA, and coach for the youth sports teams for Alton Park, and St. Francis of Assisi. He was an avid fan of the WWE, the Philadelphia Eagles, and Penn State Football. He was a dedicated Democrat and was not inhibited in expressing his political views. He loved gardening, especially with his grandson. Bob leaves behind his beloved daughters, Justine Doyle and husband, George Thornton-Bey of Royersford, and Bridgette Doyle and partner, Lori Sutton of Emmaus; his Grandchildren, Christian Aponte, and Claudia Thornton-Bey; his brother Gordon Doyle, Jr. of Allentown, PA.; as well as nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, and brother, William of Florida. At the request of Bob's wishes, there will be no public services. All services will be private. Please send condolences to the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to Robert Thomas Memorial Fund, c/o Phoenixville Federal Bank, 120 Main Street, Phoenixville, PA 19460.
