Rodney Smith Obituary
Rodney Stanley Smith, age 68 of Kunkletown, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, August 4, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, PA.
Rodney was the loving husband of Kathy J. (Imbt) Smith. They would have celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary on August 20th.
He was born in East Stroudsburg, PA on January 6, 1957, son of the late Stanley A. and Pauline (Smith) Smith.
Rodney worked for over 40 years in the telecommunications field first starting his career at Palmerton Telephone Co. He then joined his father and began working for Commonwealth Telephone Co. in Saylorsburg, PA. Upon his retirement in 2023, he was working as a Switchman for Frontier Communications located in Pocono Lake, PA.
He was a member of St. Matthew's United Church of Christ in Kunkletown, PA. He was a lifetime member of the Kunkletown Rod and Gun Club in Kunkletown, PA and a former member of the Western Pocono Jaycees.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and boating, but what brought him the greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their many activities and sporting events.
We have been blessed with the presence of Rodney in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife: Kathy J. (Imbt) Smith of Kunkletown, PA, his children: Laura Bealer and husband Adam of Palmerton, PA, Amanda Getz and husband Brad of Kunkletown, PA, and Corey Smith and wife Tiffany of Kunkletown, PA.
He was the loving grandfather, or affectionately known as 'Pap', to Blake Bealer, Lydia Bealer, Maci Getz, Brianna Getz, Amelia Smith, and his newest grandson, Wayne Smith, born just three days after his passing on August 7th.
He is also survived by his siblings: Colleen Yaple of Kunkletown, PA, Rocky Smith and companion Lori Yates of Kunkletown, PA as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 16th at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 1426 Route 209, Gilbert, PA.
Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences on Saturday, August 16th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home.
Interment is private at the convenience of the family.
