Born on October 22, 1946, Russ grew up in the post-war years on Chicago's south side to first generation Sicilian American parents Frank Miserendino and Mamie (Bianco) Miserendino.
His was a classic 1950's childhood, shared with his sister Connie (Miserendino) Virgilio of Hickory Hills Illinois and brother Joey Miserendino (deceased). It was full of stickball games with neighborhood friends, and countless meals prepared and enjoyed with a large extended Italian family. Russ's early years in Chicago would set the stage for a life dedicated to family, friends, and faith. In 1968 Russ graduated from Argo High School in Summit, Illinois where he was involved in student government and sports. He continued his education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and graduated with a BA in History and Government. In 1978 he met his wife, Mary-Jo Thatcher on a ski trip to Vermont. They were married for nearly 50 years. In that time, they would have two children, John Miserendino and Susan (Miserendino) Mann and he would become a successful entrepreneur and investor. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his two sons-in-law, Casey Cadwallader of Paris, France and Lindsay Mann of Portland, Maine as well as his cherished grandchildren, Ellie and Calvin Mann also of Portland, Maine.
As we remember Russ, we are reminded of the love he had for his family; his unwavering integrity, and his generous spirit. He was a loving husband, a guiding father, a supportive brother, and a friend to many. He had an easy smile, an infectious laugh, and a fun-loving social spirit. He was a ringer in darts, cards, and countless other games.
