Mrs. Shirley L. (Ruppert) Moss Mengel, 88, of Mertztown, passed away on Tuesday evening, February 18, 2025 at her home, on hospice care after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 31, 1936 in Alburtis, Shirley was the daughter of the late Harvey and Esther (Trexler) Ruppert. Shirley was preceded in death by her two husbands. Her husband of 41 years, Paul J. Moss, Sr., passed away on April 9, 1994, and her second husband of 15 years, Calvin S. Mengel, Jr., passed away on January 28, 2019.
Shirley cherished raising her family and also spent several years working at the Wenton Shoe Factory and the Saucony Shoe Factory in Kutztown. She was a member of Huff's Union Church, and truly loved watching TV, doing word search puzzles, playing bingo, spending time with her family, and cheering on the Phillies. Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Paul J. "Bub" Moss, Jr., husband of Mary L. (Henry) Moss, Mertztown, Dr. Dennis M. Moss, husband of Cathy A. (Lewis) Moss, Mertztown, and Corey S. Moss, husband of Tara L. (Stoeber) Moss, Auburn, PA. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Melanie Moss, Megan (Moss) Pachon, Remington Moss, Nicole Falk, Nicholas Schaeffer, and Gabrielle Moss, her great-grandchildren, Dominic, Madeline, Oliver, Finnegan, Fallyn, Christopher, Aria, and Skylar, and by her brother, Carl Ruppert, Breinigsville.
Along with her parents and her two husbands, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter Lori L. Dunkel, and by several brothers & sisters.
Per Shirley's wishes, there will not be a formal service. Private services for the Moss family will be held at a future date.
