Sonya Alleger

Sonya Alleger, 96, of Emmaus, PA, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, following a cherished life marked by family, friends, laughter and exceptional good health. She enjoyed good health up until the months before she passed, passionately playing golf, bridge and bowling with the family and friends she loved. From Olyphant, PA, Sonya was a graduate of Scranton Lackawanna Business School and worked for General Mills in Scranton prior to her marriage to Joseph Petro, also of Olyphant. Sonya and Joe were married nearly 40 years until Joe's passing. While raising their three daughters, and after helping Joe establish his business in Allentown, PA, Sonya gave back to her community by working at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, first in the business office and then in admitting. After several decades of service, she retired from the hospital and married the late Robert Alleger, Sr. of Haddonfield, NJ, expanding the circle of family for her to enjoy and love. Sonya was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown, where she sang in the choir. Sonya will be remembered for her enduring and lifelong friendships and her willingness to help anyone in need. Her family will remember her unending support and words of wisdom that always made everything better. Sonya is survived by daughters Susan, Laura and Jo Ann, married to sons-in-law Jim, Bruce and Al; grandson Sean; great granddaughter Kayla; and many nieces, nephews and step-children of multiple generations. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 1040 Flexer Ave. Allentown. A calling hour will be held from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M in the Church. Arrangements by the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
