Susan Katz Obituary

Susan A. (Bain) Katz, 79, a longtime resident of Bethlehem and Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Born on May 14, 1945 in Kensington, London, England, Susan was the daughter of the late Pauline Fiona Ruby Beresford and Francis Bruce Cook. In 1955, at the age of 10, she and her family immigrated to America aboard the Queen Elizabeth passenger liner, arriving in New York City before eventually settling in Pickering, Ontario, Canada. An award-winning television producer, Susan began her career at CFTO in Toronto, working across drama, comedy, news, and talk shows before moving to Philadelphia to join KYW-TV. There, she produced The Marciarose Show, a daily talk program, as well as the award-winning political series MeetingHouse. She later became the station's executive producer and played a key role in Evening Magazine. After an accomplished career in television, Susan transitioned to a new field, dedicating many years of service to the senior housing and care industry with Brecht Associates. Beyond her professional achievements, Susan was a woman of many passions. She loved gardening, entertaining, reading, and spending time with family. A lifelong lover of the arts and the outdoors, she found joy in creativity and connection. Susan is survived by her son, Justin Mascio (Becky) of Hellertown, PA; stepchildren, Jillian Pierson of Pasadena, CA, and Noel Katz of Huntington Beach, CA; and her siblings, Andrew Bain (Yuko), Douglas Bain, and Scott Bain. She was a cherished grandmother to Taite & Quinn Pierson, Adelaide Katz, and Jackson, Oliver & Isabella Mascio. She also leaves behind her niece, Momo Watanabe (Harry), and nephews, Jeremy Nelson (Michal) and Seth Nelson (Susie). She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur "Joel" Katz. Susan's kindness, intelligence, and vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A private family gathering will be held in her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to National Park Foundation in Susan's honor.

Justin, Debra and I just learned of your mother's passing. Having not lived in the Lehigh Valley for nearly 25 years, we had lost touch with she and Joel. Your mother will, always, be remembered fondly by us, especially for her wit and engaging smile accompanied by that wild laugh. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. May God be with you as we are sure your Mom is in heaven, but we are not so certain of Joel. regards, Wayne and Debra Dubbs

Susan was an very classy lady who was intelligent, caring, and had a wicked sense of humor. Some of the our best times were at the theme parties and road trip scavenger hunts.
