Thomas Epps Obituary

Thomas L. Epps, 82, of Pottstown, PA, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2025, at Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Pottstown, PA, on August 8, 1942, Tom was the son of the late Leo Epps and Mildred (Harrison) E. Durdin. Tom graduated from Pottstown High School before proudly serving in the United States Air Force, where he specialized in airplane maintenance. Following his military service, he began his career as a typewriter technician with IBM before transitioning to a role as an electrician at Mrs. Smith's Pies. He later worked at Pottstown Hospital in housekeeping, where he remained until his retirement in 2020. A true craftsman at heart, Tom loved working with his hands and earned the nickname "MacGyver" for his remarkable problem-solving skills. He had a passion for pool-he was a true pool shark-and also enjoyed playing the saxophone, singing, and indulging his interest in race cars. Beyond his hands-on talents, he had a sharp mind and loved solving crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy!-a daily ritual he never missed. Whether spending time with his beloved dogs, catching up with friends, or cherishing moments with family, he was always the life of the gathering. Above all, Tom was a devoted father and grandfather whose love and presence will be deeply missed. Tom is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Shannon (& Andre) Wilkerson and Thomasina (& Alonzo) Gay; his stepchildren, Darlington Davidheiser and Danielle (& John) Jones; his grandchildren, Brianna, Brittany, Alicia, Zaire, Qaadir, Maximus, Trenton, Deitrich, Nyles, Aiden, Darlington, Matthew, Maliyah, Jordynn, Keeden, Michael, Naszir, Sa'Vaughn, and De'Naya; and many great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by the mother of his children, Joan Davidheiser; his stepson, Paul Davidheiser; and his siblings, Charlene Epps and William T. Durdin. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Houck & Gofus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 955 N. Charlotte St., Pottstown, PA 19464, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be shared online at www.houckgofusfuneralhome.com.
