Acquetta Lewis Obituary
Acquetta Elizabeth Lewis, 71, of New Haven, Connecticut, departed to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, June 20, 2025. Born on December 1, 1953, in Richmond, Virginia, Acquetta moved to Connecticut with her family at a young age and quickly began forging a path marked by grace, strength, and determination.
A proud graduate of West Haven High School, Acquetta made history as the school's first Black prom queen-a testament to her vibrant spirit and the respect she earned from her peers. She continued her education at Southern Connecticut State University, where she earned an Associate's Degree in English, laying the foundation for a life enriched by knowledge and communication.
Acquetta dedicated many years of service to the United States Postal Service. Through hard work and perseverance, she rose through the ranks to become a supervisor-a role in which she led with integrity and care. Her professional journey reflected her commitment to excellence and her ability to inspire those around her.
She was deeply devoted to her family. Acquetta is survived by her former husband, Donald R. Lewis of West Haven, CT; their three daughters, Nicole Lewis, Alexsa Lewis, and Asia Lewis, all of West Haven; and her cherished grandson, Cayden Carter. Her love for them was fierce and unwavering. She also leaves behind her brother, Everette Frye, Jr. and his wife Robyn Frye of Rhode Island. Her beloved dog companion of 15 years, Teddy "Ted" Lewis, remained faithfully by her side through life's many seasons. Lastly, Acquetta leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
Acquetta was preceded in death by her parents, Everette and Vivian Frye; as well as her life partner, Andrew Argento.
A woman of deep faith, Acquetta maintained a lifelong relationship with God and Christ. Her spirituality was a guiding force throughout her life, offering strength during adversity and gratitude during times of joy. At The Towers in New Haven where she resided in recent years, she became a beloved member of the community. She actively participated in Bible Study groups and choir sessions and played a key role in organizing events through the Friendly Neighbors Social Connection.
An avid reader with an insatiable curiosity for learning, Acquetta immersed herself in books spanning politics, American and World History, and Biblical studies. Her intellectual pursuits were matched only by her social nature, she was truly a social butterfly who brought people together with warmth and enthusiasm.
In September 2023, Acquetta received the gift of renewed life through a kidney donation-a blessing that allowed her more precious time with those she loved most.
Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched, with kindness in every word spoken and strength in every challenge faced. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
