Andrea Clancy Obituary
Andrea Clancy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, dedicated educator passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 7th, 2025. She was born to John Hansen and Elinor Dougan Hansen on September 3, 1952, and was predeceased by her brother, Martin Hansen. Andrea graduated from Manchester High School in 1970, earned her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Connecticut State College in 1974, and completed her Master of Library Science at Southern Connecticut State University in 1992.
With a passion for inspiring young minds, Andrea served as the Children's Librarian for the Hartford Public Library at the Albany Avenue branch and as a Library Media Specialist in Manchester, CT schools, including Robertson, Highland Park, and Bowers Elementary Schools, as well as Odyssey Community School. Throughout her career, she brought the joy of reading and illustration to thousands of children, helping many of her students write, illustrate, and publish their own books.
In addition to her professional life, Andrea was an active participant in local theatre, enjoyed researching her family genealogy, volunteered her time as a docent for the Old Manchester Museum, and cherished gardening, sewing, baking, and hosting family gatherings. She arranged yearly gingerbread making sessions with her grandchildren and was known for her Irish Soda Bread, which she would make every year.
She was married to her high school sweetheart and best friend, Patrick Clancy for over 50 years. Together they created a loving home for their two daughters, Sarah and her husband Bryon Billings and Siobhan and her husband Matthew Leonard, and their families. Andrea was a devoted grandmother to Braydon, Oscar, Emily, and Benjamin, and a cherished aunt to Nathan Hansen.
Andrea's love for family extended to summers spent at the lake house, traveling to St. John with friends and creating happy memories with her extended family. She is forever grateful to the wonderful nurses at St. Francis Hospital, the rehabilitation team at Maple View, and the compassionate Vernon Visiting Nurses and health care workers for their exceptional care, as well as her brother-in-law Sean Clancy and her dear friend Ilga Zenta Paups - they know why. Most importantly, she thanks her loving husband Patrick, who cared for her tirelessly.
Andrea Clancy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of kindness, creativity, and dedication to education will continue to inspire generations to come.
