Andrzej Stachowiak Obituary

Andrzej "Andy" Stachowiak, 78, of New Britain, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Born in Diddington, England, to Franciszek and Jadwiga Stachowiak, Andy was a proud and lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in New Britain. Andrzej moved to New Britain in 1957 at the age of 10. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Civil Engineering and later earned a master's degree from the University of Texas at El Paso. He went on to serve his country as an officer in the U.S. Army, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he also completed an MBA from Boston University. Following his service, Andy enjoyed a fulfilling 45-year career as a civil engineer, retiring from the Town of Farmington. A lifelong Polish Boy Scout, Andrzej was proud to have been the first Polish Boy Scout in New Britain. For more than 65 years, he remained a devoted and active member of the Polish Scouting Organization (ZHP), mentoring generations of young scouts and building enduring friendships within the community. Above all, Andrzej will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Ewa; his sons, Jacek Stachowiak and his wife Joanna of Fairfield, CT and Pawel Stachowiak of New Britain; and his three cherished grandchildren, Aleksander, Aniela, and Adrian. He is also survived by his sister, Ania Horelik and her husband Michal and his niece Basia Nartowicz and two nephews Adam and Grzegorz Horelik, and many loving extended family members and friends. Andrzej found great joy in sharing stories and spending time with his family and grandchildren, who adored him. Andrzej was a history buff and enjoyed camping and the outdoors, and trips to Cape Cod. He will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, gentle humor, calm demeanor, and the pride he took in his Polish heritage. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the New Britian Polish Scouting Organization (ZHP). https://venmo.com/code?user_id=2388027468939264409&created=1760206919 Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, October 12 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St. New Britain.
