Arlene Ruddy Obituary

Arlene Joan Ruddy, 92, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Gordon F. Ruddy, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025. Arlene was born in Weymouth, MA, daughter of the late Raymond Joseph and Dorothy Catherine (Donovan) Cohoon, and graduated from Braintree High School. She then moved to Boston, MA and worked in a variety of administrative positions before relocating to Connecticut in the early 60s, where she was employed as the assistant to the Dean of Education at the University of Hartford. Arlene was a faithful communicant of St. Damien of Molokai, St. Gabriel Church, in Windsor. Arlene was a loving mother, nana, sister, auntie, and friend. She will fondly be remembered as a nurturing, generous, and caring woman who loved her family and friends more than anything. Arlene was a supportive mother who volunteered at her kid's school, attended their events, and supported their dreams. She taught her boys the value of faith, family, respect, discipline, and to treat others the way you would want to be treated. Her love for her family knew no limits and she made the ultimate sacrifice and expression of pure love by donating a kidney to her son, Patrick, to save his life. Arlene was an amazing nana and her grandsons loved spending time with her, and they were always sad when it was time to leave. She was a lady who was small in stature, but large in her convictions, was super protective of her family, and stood up for what she believed was right. Arlene had a dry and witty sense of humor, was strong-willed, and enjoyed doing things her own way, but she had a heart of gold, and everything came from a place of love. Arlene and Gordon spent many summer vacations at the Cape with their family and friends and enjoyed traveling around the world together. After Gordon passed, she traveled with her girlfriends, and they visited all over Europe and the Mediterranean. Arlene also loved to spend Saturdays playing Mahjong with her close friends, was in a daily Wordle group, and was an avid UConn Women's Basketball fan. Arlene leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Paul Ruddy and his wife Donna of Agawam, MA; her grandsons, Bryan and Sean Ruddy; her brother, Bruce Cohoon; her special friend and hairdresser for over 40 years, Roni Root; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was predeceased by her loving son, Patrick Ruddy; her brother, Richard Cohoon; and her sister, Judy Brennan. Her service will be private. Dear Paul and family

I would often see Arlene when I would visit my mom Joyce Lange, in fact it was not too long ago that my mom and I rang the bell and she told us about her new cat. Arlene was always such a sweet person and very loving, always had such nice things to say when I would see her, most often I would see her driving by and waving. I have to say Arlene had beautiful hair and a lovely smile.

May God give you all strength and peace through this difficult time.
It was nice having Arlene as a neighbor as well

Dear Paul and Family,

My deepest condolences on the loss of dearest Arlene. This is a beautiful description of her life. We had so many good trips, lunches, and games with your mom. She was so kind to me when I was recovering at Duncaster. She was lively, interesting, and always fun to be around. I will miss her daily.

Love to all of you,
June Urban
