Bonnie Simmons Obituary

Bonnie Ann Simmons, 62, of New Britain, CT passed away peacefully on the evening of October 9th 2025. Born in New Britain,CT on June 6th 1963 to Barbara Bonalewicz, she spent her childhood living in both Massachusetts and Connecticut. She loved the autumn in the northeast and the holiday season. Bonnie was known for her innate caregiving nature, her generous spirit, and her love for her family and friends. In her passing, Bonnie has been reunited with her childhood sweetheart and husband Willie Derwin Simmons (11/8/58-12/31/2011), also of New Britain, CT. They were together since May of 1977 and married April 21st, 1984. In their years together they created a warm home filled with laughter, good food, and love. Their love continues to endure in sons, Marques Simmons, his wife Shani Simmons, and Joseph Wooten-Mack; daughters, Brittny Simmons, Jaclyn Simmons, and Anita Simmons. Bonnie is survived by her siblings, Susan Carrillo, Jason Tartt, and Nichole Cahill; Brothers-in-law Darron Simmons and Antony Simmons. Sisters-in-law Sharon Simmons, Renita MacPherson, Beatrice Simmons, and Kathleen Crowley-Tartt. Grandchildren, Leighani Padilla, Jacoby Simmons, and Ezra Priester. Nephews, Antonio Simmons, Brooks Simmons, Adam Tartt, Ayyub Tartt, Bilal Tartt, Ibrahim Tartt, Jude Cahill, and Tristan Aligata. Nieces Katrina Priester, Destiny Priester, Kiera Grisset, and Saffiyah Tartt and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lastly, devoted friends, Mary Ellen George and Aurora Tomlin. The family would also like to extend special thanks to Dr. Lawrence Giove and his staff at Starling Physicians, who went above and beyond providing dedicated and compassionate care to Bonnie in her time of need. Services will be held at Spottswood AME Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain on Friday October 17th, 2025. Viewing hours will be 9:00-11:00AM with the Homegoing celebration beginning at 11:00AM with Bishop Ron E. Surrey officiating. Committal service and final resting place will be in Fairview Cemetery, 1141 Smalley St. New Britain. The family is requesting that everyone wear red or pink, as those were Bonnie's colors.
