Carly Nasser Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Carly Michelle Nasser on April 2, 2025 after a long illness. Carly was born in Winsted, CT., June 20, 1972. Her family moved to New Hartford when she was 4 years old, and there she attended local elementary schools, and Regional #7 High School. She was an excellent student and was honored to be selected for a summer program in Creative Writing at Wesleyan University. Carly received a BA degree from Connecticut College in New London and a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of CT. She lived in Waterford most of her adult married life. She worked for many years with the Connecticut Department of Social Security Disability as an Examiner, then as a Supervisor. More recently she maintained a psychotherapy private practice where she particularly enjoyed treating adolescents and young adults. Carly was a vivacious, generous person, who loved being with family and friends. She had a great sense of humor, was thoughtful and always on the go. Carly enjoyed concerts, art shows, and plays. She was an avid reader, and during her long commute, read hundreds of audio books. Carly helped raise two daughters who were much loved. Carly also had a deep connection to animals, domestic and wild. She loved horses, and became an excellent rider in her youth. She was owned by three beautiful cats and two dogs. Once her daughters went off to college, she volunteered in animal welfare, assisting at a horse farm that taught riding to children with disabilities, and fostering a dog. She found peace in weekly yoga and daily meditation. Inspired by a photography class, Carly took beautiful nature photographs on her long walks along the Niantic River and during her travels. She had a green thumb, and enjoyed gardening indoors and out, especially enjoyed her orchid collection. Carly was predeceased by her former husband of 17 years, Nathan Nasser, and her uncles James Guglielmino, Jr. and Douglas Merbaum. She leaves behind her daughters, Rachel and Brooke Nasser, her sister Marisa, her parents Brian and Nancy Merbaum, aunts and uncles Jeanne Guglielmino, Diana Grazia, Peter Guglielmino, Joanna Guglielmino, Maria Guglielmino, Carole Guglielmino, Frank Guglielmino, Cindy Puccini, and many cousins. A Celebration of Life will be private. Montano-Shea Funeral Home in New Hartford has care of arrangements. I feel so lucky to have gotten to know Carly at work. She was beautiful , thoughtful, empathetic and so smart. Carly told wonderful stories about her daughters and made me look forward to my daughter´s journey into young adulthood. She approached conflict with patience and listened with kindness. Carly was full of grace and light. I am filled with sadness to hear of her passing and gratitude to have gotten to know her.
