Carolyn Caswell Obituary

Carolyn (Houghton) Caswell of East Hartford, widow of Francis Caswell, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Riverside Health and Rehab Center in East Hartford. Born in Cabot, Vermont on June 13, 1930, she was the daughter of the late E. Carroll and Mabel (Smith) Houghton. Carolyn grew up in Cabot, moving to Hartford in 1944 to attend Weaver High School where she graduated from in 1948. After marrying Francis, they moved to East Hartford where they raised their three children. Carolyn was employed at Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford for 32 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the former Hockanum Methodist Church in East Hartford, where she enjoyed doing volunteer work. She leaves two daughters, Linda (Caswell) Mahoney of Southington and Karen (Caswell) Robson of East Hartford, as well as her grandchildren, Ryan Mahoney and his wife, Melissa of Massachusetts, James Mahoney and his wife, Stacey of Plainville, Kimberly Romano and her husband, Michael of Ellington, Megan Wimp and her husband, Curt of Kentucky, Jonathan Caswell and his wife, Sarah of Coventry and Heather Garaffia and her husband, Daniel of South Windsor. Carolyn also leaves eleven great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Paul. Carolyn loved spending holidays and special occasions with her family. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 14th at 11:00 AM at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor, CT, 06074, Calling hours will be Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale of South Windsor for their loving care of Carolyn while she lived there. She considered them to be part of her family.
