Charles Friedman Obituary

Charles Herschel Friedman, 87, of South Glastonbury, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 19, 2025. He was the beloved husband of June (Wheeler) McKeon, with whom he would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 16, 2025. Charles was born in Hartford to the late Samuel and Sarah (Berman) Friedman, and spent his childhood in Colchester, CT, where he was extremely popular with many residents of the town. He served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany, and while stationed there he traveled extensively throughout Europe. After leaving the military, Charles worked as an executive at Anderson Laboratories and then later worked as a real estate agent and developer. He was an avid sportsman and loved sailing, fishing, golf and racquetball. He was a particularly talented skier and enjoyed skiing regularly in Vermont, Colorado, Italy, Switzerland and Austria. He was an original investor in the Killington Resort in Vermont and owned a ski chalet there for many years. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants and faithfully watched their games. He was also a talented chef and loved to cook for his family and friends. Charles loved being a grandfather and adored his granddaughter, Jondle McKeon. He will be remembered as a loving husband, brother, uncle and grandfather. Alongside his wife June, Charles leaves behind his stepson Sean Wheeler, and his granddaughter Jondle McKeon. He also leaves behind his sister Rena (Friedman) Linder and his nephews Moss Linder and Samuel Linder and their families, as well as his sisters-in-law Elizabeth Wheeler and Linda Wheeler, his brother-in-law Joseph Wheeler and wife Patricia Watras, cousins Israel Friedman, and Kim and Jim Nissen and family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Eva Friedman, his brother-in-law Herbert Linder, his niece Kathy (Linder) Echochard and his stepson Matthew McKeon. A graveside service honoring Charles will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM in Green Cemetery, 96 Hubbard Street, Glastonbury. I was lucky enough to know Charlie via buying a condo. Then I was lucky twice to know June too thru my friend Dianna Rehla
Charlie was such a nice person. We all often had lunch at Char Koon. Heaven is going to be alot more fun with Charlie there!

The Friedlander family

June 26, 2025

Dear June,
We were (and are) so fortunate to have you and Charlie as our neighbors and friends for over 30 years. Charlie had an uncanny knack of knowing when something was baking in the oven....brownies, cookies, dessert bars, coffee cake and any kind of pie! He always knew the right time to stop in.
He was always here to help with any home projects be it faucets, washer, dryer, painting and an addition. Charlie was an all-around great guy. Whether playing with the kids or telling them funny stories, Charlie had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. We all have such warm memories.
June, you are truly an angel with your special care, your dedication, love and kindness for everyone around you all these years.
Our most sincere condolences to you, Sean, Betsy, Rina, Jondle and the entire family.
May his memory be a blessing.
With love,
Harry & Leslie Friedlander and the gang
