Charles Lindlau Obituary

Charles M. Lindlau, beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betsy) P. Lindlau of Gilford, NH, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Charles and Anna Maria Lindlau. Orphaned as children, Chuck and his brother Joe faced early adversity. Chuck ultimately found solace and purpose in the military, enrolling in the United States Army in 1952, where he served as a Paratrooper during the Korean War. His military career spanned 15 years, including service with the CT Army National Guard. He was assigned to HHD STARC in support of the CTARNG pistol team as a competitive shooter. His contributions were marked by his dedication to the team, excellence in marksmanship, and role as an instructor. The team's exceptional performance led to victories in the All-Army Championship, Forscom Pistol Championship, and Winston P. Wilson Championships in Arkansas on multiple occasions. Chuck actively participated in several organizations aligned with his military commitment. He was a Charter member of the Connecticut Yankee All-Airborne Chapter, serving on the Board of Directors, and a life member of the 11th and 82nd Airborne Division Associations, as well as the exclusive C-47 Club and International Association of Airborne Veterans. Additionally, he was a member of the Skydive Over Sixty Club. A devoted family man, Chuck provided greatly for his loved ones. He retired from the City of Hartford in 1993 after working 41 years in the Parks & Recreation (Forestry Division) Department as Forestry Foreman. In addition to his municipal employment, he worked part-time evenings for the United States Postal Service for 10 years. Following retirement, Chuck and Betsy incorporated travel into their lives, relocating to Savannah, GA for a few years before settling in Gilford, NH. Chuck will be profoundly missed by his wife Betsy and his daughters, Kimberly Coen of Killington, VT, and Karen Mazur of Glastonbury, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, James Coen, William Coen, Sydney Mazur, and Mallory Mazur. Chuck also leaves his sister-in-law Carolyn Lindlau, nephew Eric Lindlau and niece Janet Lindlau. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Joseph Lindlau and his son-in-law Richard Mazur. His legacy endures through his loving family. Friends may call on Tuesday May 20th from 11:00am to 12:00 PM at the Farley- Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Road, Wethersfield, CT. A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 in the funeral home.
